CHASING WBC DESTINY IN AUSTRALIA

13 Sep 2018

Thursday, September 13th: It’s going to be a clash of continents on Saturday the 27th of October as two elite fighting stars from the UK and Australia collide to see who will be crowned the new WBC MuayThai light-heavyweight (175 lbs, 79.379 kg) world champion.

The hotly anticipated contest is the talk of the town in the state of Queensland, in Australia, and the host city for the prestigious fight is Brisbane and most importantly: Chris Jonstone and his team at Destiny MuayThai promotions are hosting the world title bout.

The Protagonists:

Australian fighter and current WBC MuayThai #1 ranked light-heavyweight Ben Johnston will look to make it a hometown celebration as he looks to become Australia’s next WBC MuayThai world champion.

Ben also happens to be the current WBC International light-heavyweight champion so his path to this title challenge is one of great progression through the ranks of the WBC. Ben’s professional fight record stands at twenty five fights with twenty victories and two loses.

Ben’s most recent foray over the ropes was a successful defense of that aforementioned international light-heavyweight against New Zealander Alex Red, via a first round TKO victory.

British fighter Dan Edwards boasting a fight record of (41-9-0) comes from the Birmingham, UK based K-Star gym and trains under the tutelage of former elite fighter Damien Trainor.

Edwards was last in the ring back in June of this year, and on that occasion he was victorious over Italian fighter Andrea Rizzi, via a points decision.

Ben has a wealth of ring experience, having fought in Thailand on many occasions and shared the ring with a lot of top European talent over the last number of years.

Can the rising star from Damien Trainor’s K-Star gym steal the limelight from hometown favorite, Johnston, or will the King of MuayThai in Brisbane reign supreme?

On behalf of WBC MuayThai Chairman Pol. General Kovid Bhakdibhumi, WBC President Mauricio Sulaiman, and the entire WBC team, we wish both fighters the best of luck for their upcoming showdown.
