DAREN ROLLAND CLAIMS WBC FEATHERWEIGHT

7 Aug 2019

Frenchman Daren Rolland this week joined his fellow countrymen, Fabio Pinca and Jimmy Vienot, in becoming a World Boxing Council MuayThai world champion.

The year 2019 has been a fantastic journey for the man from Marseille! Earlier this year he became the WBC MuayThai International super-bantamweight champion.

Then, this past weekend — stepping up a weight division — he sealed the ultimate in WBC MuayThai accolades as he was crowned the WBC MuayThai featherweight world champion.

In order for that dream to become a reality, Rolland had to overcome the formidable challenge of defeating Spain’s Carlos Coello, himself a former WBC MuayThai International featherweight champion.

The contest was hosted by the wonderful team at Cadiz Fight Night, at the Cadiz Football stadium. The setting was mesmerizing ...but the hopes of the home fans were shattered as Rolland spoiled the Carlos party.

The fight started well for both fighters as they both looked to set a tempo of early dominance, in the opening stanza. First blood was not drawn by either protagonist.

Then came the hammer blow in the midst of the second round as Rolland teed up an inch perfect ‘spinning elbow’ which would send Coello crashing to the canvas, to the point of no return.

And with that: Daren Rolland become the new World Boxing Council MauyThai featherweight champion of the world.

On behalf of the entire team at the WBC we would like to congratulate Daren and his team on their WBC championship glory.
