His Majesty The King of Thailand met with the WBC President Dr. Jose Sulaiman. The historic meeting was held at the King’s Palace on 22 November 2001. Inspired by the meeting, the World Boxing Council set about to establish the WBC MuayThai to rate fighters worldwide, sanction championship fights, and promote the sport and culture of MuayThai around the world. 

WBC MuayThai was officially established in October 2004, at the WBC Convention on Phuket Island.
