Sunday, September 12, 2021: One week on from the inaugural WBC MuayThai championship title contest taking place in India — now the dust has settled — it’s time to reflect on the groundbreaking work being done by so many in the country to enhance the prospects for the sport of MuayThai in the region.

First of all, the man who was crowned as the first-ever WBC MuayThai champion of India, Surya Sagar, a fighter who has achieved many firsts for MuayThai fighters from India, having competed at a high level in Thailand and now adds owning the inaugural WBC MuayThai Indian championship to his growing lists of achievements.

The Bangalore-based combatant overcame a highly-touted opponent, Basavesh, to claim the WBC MuayThai India super-lightweight crown. He made history as the first Indian MuayThai fighter to claim an iconic green & gold belt.

The previous groundbreaking work continues with the excellent team behind the growth and success of the WBC MuayThai in the region; that group is led by Vaibhav Shetty, Vikram Nagaraj, and Kevin Kevin Alfred David, all three of whom are passionate to see the sport and culture of MuayThai prosper in India.

We celebrate all of the fighters, organizers, and fans who took part in making last week’s Fraggingmonk promotion work. It was a success. There will be more, and we will be there to witness and support it.
