Developing the Next Generation of MuayThai Officials

The evolution of MuayThai as a global sport relies not only on elite fighters and trainers but also on highly competent officials who ensure the integrity and fairness of competition. With this in mind, the WBC MuayThai Ring Officials Development Program – Green Level was successfully conducted in Zurich, Switzerland, under the leadership of Nash Keshwala and with the gracious hospitality of Paulo Balicha.

This entry-level certification seminar marked a significant milestone in developing new officials in Europe, with over 30 attendees participating in the intensive workshop. As the demand for qualified MuayThai officials grows worldwide, initiatives like these are vital to maintaining high standards in officiating and ensuring the sport’s continued growth and professionalism.

What is the Green Level Program?

The Green Level Program is the entry point for individuals new to MuayThai officiating. It aims to provide participants with foundational knowledge, practical skills, and a clear understanding of the responsibilities required to officiate matches effectively and ethically. This program equips aspiring officials with the necessary tools to enforce rules, ensure fighter safety, and maintain fair competition.

Objective

The primary objective of the Green Level program is to introduce and educate new officials on the fundamental rules, techniques, and responsibilities of MuayThai officiating. Participants gain insight into MuayThai’s core principles and develop the necessary skills to officiate with competence, confidence, and integrity.

• Role-Playing and Simulation Exercises – Hands-on practice in real-world officiating scenarios, including stopping fights, separating fighters during clinches, and making scoring decisions.

• Live and Recorded Fight Analysis – Participants had the opportunity to score recorded fights, analyze judging decisions, and gain insights from experienced officials.

4. Assessment & Certification

• Written Examination – Participants were tested on their knowledge of MuayThai rules and officiating principles through a structured exam.

• Practical Assessment – Attendees demonstrated their officiating skills in simulated environments, ensuring they could apply their learning effectively in real-world settings.

The Future of WBC MuayThai Officials

The success of the Green Level Workshop in Zurich highlights the growing interest in professional MuayThai officiating across Europe. With the WBC MuayThai Ring Officials Development Program expanding, more individuals will have the opportunity to pursue higher levels of certification, such as the Intermediate (Yellow Level) and Elite (Red Level) programs.

By ensuring that new officials receive comprehensive training in rules, ethics, and practical officiating, WBC MuayThai continues to uphold the highest standards of professionalism in MuayThai. As these newly certified officials progress, they will play an integral role in shaping the future of the sport, both in their local regions and on the international stage.
