In a groundbreaking move to elevate MuayThai athletes beyond the ring, the Sports Authority of Thailand (SAT) and Bangkok Thonburi University (BTU) have officially signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to launch the “SMART MUAYTHAI” initiative.

This pioneering program aims to merge athletic excellence with academic achievement, creating a pathway for MuayThai athletes, coaches, and officials to thrive both in competition and education—while positioning Thai soft power on the global stage.

The signing ceremony brought together key figures in Thailand’s sports and education sectors. Asst. Prof. Pimol Srivikorn, Chairman of the Subcommittee on Sports Industry Development; Mrs. Proadpran Samanmitr, Deputy Governor of SAT for Professional Sports and MuayThai; and Prof. Dr. Bangon Benjathikul, President of BTU, inked the agreement, witnessed by top executives from the World Boxing Council, WBC MuayThai, faculty members, and MuayThai industry leaders.

The “SMART MUAYTHAI” project is more than an educational program—it’s a strategic effort to shape the future of Thailand’s national sport. By providing educational opportunities to MuayThai athletes, trainers, and referees, the initiative aims to cultivate well-rounded professionals who can represent Thailand on the world stage both inside and outside the ring. This collaboration will also focus on recognizing and supporting individuals who have achieved excellence in the sport, ensuring they receive the educational resources needed for long-term success.
This partnership marks a significant milestone in Thailand’s commitment to integrating sports and education, driving the sustainable growth of MuayThai, and reinforcing its influence as part of the country’s global soft power strategy.
