Monday, May 17, 2020: The crowd roared with exhilaration on Saturday night at the Labadi Beach Hotel, in Accra, Ghana, when Lawrence Nmai was crowned the new WBC MuayThai Africa super-middleweight champion.
That aforementioned roar came about halfway through the opening round of the championship encounter when the Ghanaian star landed a thunderous elbow to the forehead of his opponent, Tanzanian star, Emmanuel Shija, a fortnight stopping elbow which forced the referee, in consultation with the ring side doctor, to call a halt to the bout.
WBC MuayThai Africa chairman Mr. Hadj Bettahar, who was in attendance, stated that the victory for Lawrence and the championship fight itself was a defining moment for the sport of MuayThai in Ghana, and for the African continent.
On behalf of everyone at the WBC MuayThai, we would like to congratulate Lawrence for his victory and to all involved in the success of the event in Ghana.
